Password Protect your Computer

Why is it important to set up a password to login to your computer? If you have files, photos, and email that are private, without a password protected computer, anyone can access your files. Even if you live alone, your computer could be stolen. Protect your privacy by setting up a login password for your computer. But remember, every time you turn on the computer you will have to type in this password. If you find that a password protected computer is not for you, it is easy to remove password login protection.

For Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10 the process is the same. The screens that come up are different, and I will show you what they will look like. Hold down Ctrl+Alt+Delete keys at same time.

If you have not done this before, the best way to do this is hold down both Ctrl and Alt with left hand, then hit Delete once and then let go of Ctrl and Alt. Ctrl and Alt are on both sides of the spacebar on your keyboard and it does not matter which ones you use, left side or right side or even one on each side.

Win 7: Once you do the Ctrl+Alt+Del you will get this screen.

If you have the need to remove your password it is the same steps until you get to the screen to input your ‘new’ password. This one will be different than before. You will have to put in the old password one last time, then if you no longer want a password to log into your computer, leave the New Password and Confirm Password boxes blank and the Hint box blank. When the system sees nothing in those boxes and you hit the arrow pointing right, you will no longer need a password to get into Windows. Your files and information are no longer protected.
