What are the differences between IMAP and POP3?

Email is electronic mail. POP and IMAP are the protocols that deliver electronic mail to an email inbox on your computer or phone.

POP and IMAP work in different and distinct ways. With multiple devices that can check email today, changing settings to fit your need is vital to saving your time, energy and sometimes your sanity. Your email needs will determine which email protocol is right for you.

POP3 and IMAP email differences  

Basic Settings for Your CC Communications Email Account

POP3 SETTINGS

Email address: email@cccomm.net
Username: The name before the @ in the email address. (e.g. officetest@cccomm.net - officetest is the username)
Password: Password created when service started. Example: 12345AbCdE
Incoming server: pop3.phonewave.net
Port 110
Outgoing server:

The SMTP outgoing mail server can be one of 2 servers: SMTP or SMTP2. If you are setting up a mobile device, you must use SMTP2 as your outgoing server which requires a different password than your incoming server. Request SMTP2 setup for my mobile phone. (Please include your email address and contact number with request.)

SMTP Hostname
  • smtp.phonewave.net
  • Port 25
  • No authentication is required.
 
SMTP2 Hostname
  • smtp2.phonewave.net
  • Port 587
  • Authentication is required.
  • Do not use same password as incoming server
 
Do not use SSL for incoming or outgoing servers.

From Settings, select Mail, Contacts, Calendars or Accounts & Passwords (depending on the version of your device).

Select Add Account.

Enter your Name, Email, Password, and Description. Tap Next.

Select POP.
